Tim is putting on an 8th edition team tourney in Feb

Teams of three

I may go with two from SR unless there are two candidates.

still have the models, no idea where the rulebooks went, or the FAQs, or most of the army books (likely in a box somewhere for them, have found a few)

to be honest not sure the delights of purple sun and "I win!" silly rules really appeal

now going back to third edition and taking a week for a game does have an appeal

Siege was one of the best supplements written, from the days 40k and WHFB were essentially the same game, with scenarios to pit a small number of marines against a horde or fantasy gribbles on some forgotten backwater.

Mighty Empires as a proper campaign game system worked as well, let each player nominate one fight a turn to play out and use the ME system for the less interesting ones.

have 3rd edition somewhere, my copy of "armies" is long gone sadly, do have it as a pdf somewhere though, think I have siege and a few others too

far from a perfect game, if dwarves ever touched terrain forget about them ever leaving it for example, but rewarded thinking ahead better than the "six turns maximum" of later editions, also needed a bit of restraint to tone down the level 25 heros...
