If you're trying to get away from DBA type rules have a look at 'Poleaxed' by the Lance and Longbow Society. They are period specific and, if memory serves, can be played with unit bases, rather than DBA type ones.

Whose figures are they? I can't think of many companies that do 12mm.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. I was also looking at Bloody Barons by Peter Pig. They are Kallistra figs.

I thought they might be. I've got a few packs so I'll have to put brush to figure.

Bloody Barons look a decent set of rules. I haven't played them but have played others in the series. The figures are based similar to DBA but on a square base with 3 figures per base. I didn't mention them as you said you were trying to get away from small bases.

Yes Dave this is something I've been going over in my head, how to base these figures and what rule sets I will then be able to use. As the figures are supplied they are intended to be put on a base with 4 men across, 2 deep, which for me is more attractive than the typical dba scheme or the 3 figures you just mentioned for bloody barons, which is something I didn't know. I would personally I think still prefer something a little bigger than 8 men but I can work with it.

Been playing around in my head how I envision it the army to look. Was thinking 4 bases of bows infront with 3 bases of billmen and 1 base of Men at arms behind, with a commander to lead. Based around the battle of Towton I intend to build the Yorkist force if for no other reason than I've begun painting these billmen up in red and it seems Waricks livery was red. So the thinking is 4 commanders each with a retinue of 4 bows/3 bill/ 1 MAA?

I used to play 1st edition Poleaxed a few years ago. From memory, each unit was a retinue and had a base of longbows and a base of bill/men-at-arms. These bases were 12 or 16 figures and there was no reason why they couldn't be a single base for each. Early in the battle your longbows are at the front and then the bills move forward. You could play with just three retinues, forming the three wards of a medieval army. I've just ordered a copy of the Mk2 rules.

The Lance and Longbow Society also do a couple of Wars of the Roses Battle books for Poleaxed, and a lot of other books on the subject.

Looking forward to seeing what you get up to.
Lart is actually 40mm x 40mm bases with 8 men to a base for heavy infantry.

Got the start of a 15mm WOTR force but they are more generic medieval than anything specific. Jobbers has a massive 100 years war English force.

Some on the DBA forum use HOTT for WOTR as well but you are back to DBX basing.
HC works well but it is not as elegant as some other games, great mass battle spectacle though with units staying on table until totally crushed

Yes currently mulling things over. I've realised that if I want bigger bases it means either one of two things: I buy and paint twice as many figures or I have half the amount of bases. Neither option is exactly exciting the pants off me. So perhaps will stick with the 8 men to a base. 4 archer bases, 3 billmen bases and 1 men at arms base to make a retinue with a commander, 4 retinues to form the army.

The guy that inspired me to begin a WoTR project uses hail ceaser as his ruleset albeit in 6mm - take a look : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WTy-ZYgg6d0

Some of Waricks boys on the march and first of Kent's boys tested out. Photos arnt very flattering, I'm going for the "painting the unit not the figure" approach
