Cant see the forest for the trees

Postby Baldie » Mon Apr 02, 2018 7:14 pm

Picked up some damaged trees on Saturday.
Glued to 2p pieces ready for some sand and paint next.

Wanted some smaller ones to add interest in 28mm game but specifically for 15mm games.

Need to decided how best to seal the flock on as some of them were not great.

Suppose there are three options

1. PVA diluted and sprayed on from a spray bottle. Pro is it is cheap and pretty strong, con is not sure how it will drip dry.
2. Use spray varnish. Pro it should seal really hard and does soak in a little, con is it is relatively expensive and may add an odd shine even if using matt type
3. Hairspray. Pro cheap to get. Con not sure how well it will last and can I really go into a shop and ask for hairspray?

If you ask for hairspray, have someone video it.

For mine I essentially didn't bother on the pre-flocked ones. the others there is a reasonably simple way, if a bit messy.

plastic disposable coffee cup, half full of dilute PVA with a drop fo washing up liquid, the stuff used to seal bases etc. plastic tray with a bit of paper on and a jar go flock. dip the tree in the glue, move it round to utterly soak it, leaving the trunk dry. lift it up and spin it round a bit still inside the cup to get rid of most of the drips - hold over the paper and sprinkle more flock on, put to one side to dry (on several layers of newspaper, over a plastic bag)

leave for 24 - 48 hours.

should be pretty solid

Trees in first stage of prep
Need some hills, plantations etc that look three dimensional but that DBA/DBMM bases can comfortably fight over.

Also some pennies with brush etc as most systems allow a hill to be either bare or covered with stuff and pennies can be added and moved around as figs move over them.

liking the pennies idea to turn a flat hill into a wooded one or rough ground

Do need to get some terrain made

So after laughing at Reese for still finishjng his army despite three months notice I find myself in a similar position.
Trying to finjsh of a new bit of terrain and a camp.

Admittedly more for vanity than strictly needing yo do but but what the heck.

Also got my rough/difficult terrsin markerd done.

Want to finish my Swiss pike general and will be happy with that for June.

What will July bring, finish the cav for my ancient British or start my BA Germans.
