Leopard's FoW Soviets

:soviet: Battalion commander Uruda Nika Bollokov :sorry: has a few new toys..

Image
Zvezda OT-26, used as a colour tester, PSC sent me some of these instead of Katyusha, figured cheap enough so not bothered, have five but this is the only one painted, Early war goodness. Nice little kit, six parts.

Image
KV-1 company, again Zvezda, built for the upcoming tournament and to provide a bit of omph to the force, again six parts, basic models but they will do (lack of the hull MG is perhaps the most noticeable thing)

Image
BM-13 rocket battery, well the start of it, need the two of them for the event so thats all thats built as yet, the other six are still in the boxes. Infantry components still in progress. Zvezda again, there is a theme here, an aura of a cheapskate perhaps. Not as nice as the KV-1 and OT-26 to build.. 28 parts each.. if anyone wants 15mm scale lorry wheels this is a good kit to get, all 10 are individual.

Coloured managed via the PSC Soviet armour spray, which sadly applied and ended up slightly waxy, not totally sure why as other sprays done the same day went on fine, may be more sensitive to moisture in the air or something. Not fatal but makes putting the black wash over a pain (needs a scrubbing action with the brush), followed by a simple layering of Olive Green and edge highlighting in Italian tankcrew highlight (same edge highlight as my British armour in fact, seems to work)

Battlefront Decals, in simple positions, perhaps not that accurate but it works for me.

Bit of weathering and job done

:soviet: Update, the BM-13 Katyusha now just need static grass etc adding, planned for Thursday or Friday when everything is done.

:soviet: Scout Platoon

Camouflage isn't overly authentic but it will make them look different on the table

:soviet: Sniper

The only bit of metal in the army so far is that bit of wall

:soviet: ZiS-2, work in progress

Thats it for today, tomorrow will get the crews for the ZiS-2 finished, and the trucks to pull them, leaves only the other 45mm guns and a single infantry platoon to finish off then the army is done...

Managed to nearly get the ZiS-2 done today, no pic as the varnish is drying. Will do a full pic of the 1,650 army for the event (and the :german: one) probably Friday when they are done.

Have the rest of the deck for the table now so will also set up the whole of Bolokov's lot, should be able to put a reasonable LW army as well now - well at least able to run in 'all comers' games.

Throw in the defences planned for the D day game and will be a pretty decent Kursk defensive force to run alongside someones tank army in a larger game (hint hint Colin)

Getting to like stuff that just gets painted green, nice and easy to paint (though the PSC spray ended up with a waxy finish which is irritating)

:soviet: Army Pic, not 100% completely painted but there you go

Image

Individual companies outlined (left to right, back to front)
:soviet: IL-2
:soviet: BM-13 Katyusha Battery
:soviet: Anti Tank Rifle Company, 2 platoons
:soviet: SMG Company, 2 platoons
:soviet: 8cm Mortar company, 6 tubes
:soviet: Tank Destruction Company, 2x ZiS-2, Trucks
:soviet: Strelkovy Company, 2 platoons, HMG, 3x Light Mortar, Kommissar
:soviet: Strelkovy Company, 2 platoons, HMG, 3x Light Mortar, Kommissar
:soviet: HMG Company, 6 guns
:soviet: Strelkovy Anti Tank Company, 6x 45mm guns
:soviet: Heavy Tank Company, 3x KV-1e
:soviet: Battalion HQ, Sniper, 2x 45mm Anti Tank Guns
:soviet: Heavy Mortar Company, 6x 120mm Mortar
:soviet: Strelkovy Scout Platoon

One Strelkovy platoon to finish paintwork on tomorrow and a few to finish the bases on, otherwise not a bad little force here.

Few more bits to sort out, there are five OT-26 for an Early War force, and more ZiS-2/3, Anti Tank Rifles and more infantry still to assemble but this lot is perfectly usable now. A few pioneer conversions would be useful though, as would some flak guns. The other six BM-13 launchers also will be useful...

Nice to see you have marked out each platoon as they will look under an artillery template.

Conscript rated, 2cm separation, figured they may as well get used to it :o

Plan to put a few more rifle teams in there to allow this lot to run early war as well (10 team platoons ftw)

Battle yesterday, defeat to some British airborne who presumably were in the wrong place, unable to force a pass over a bridge and hold it despite heavy casualties on both sides. British deployment were in excellent defensive positions which the Soviet forces were unable to break due to the fast flowing river lacking the ability to outflank the bridge.

In hiding from the kommissars until the enemy gets board and goes away..

Rumours of a large armoured assault in the near future..

Have to love having an airbrush, between about five and nine have managed to prime and base coat 26 tanks...

Colin these Model Air paints are amazing.

Hopefully will have an army next week...
