Hail Arthur! Boycie's 15mm Time Machine

Postby 'Allo 'Allo » Sat Dec 03, 2016 6:54 pm

Trying to mobilize for Hail Caesar, A game I've not played before, but being me I've decided that I'm not that keen on any of the forces in the Base or Biblical and Classical books, and instead decided I'd like to make a go out of something from the Late Antiquity to Early Medieval book.
This will of course mean there will be a substantial chronological gap between them and most Ancients forces, but I'm hoping to keep it reasonably balanced.
Historical accuracy is unlikely over the whole force but I'll try and keep the force accurate to it's self even if the conflicts they fight aren't plausible.

Front runners for the Force are...
:Arthurian-British (5th-6th Century)
:Norman (10th-12th Century)
:Plantagenet English (Mid 12th-13th Century's)

Mainly looked at mini's from Essex Miniatures or Old Glory Miniatures.

Forces Breakdown as..

Arthurian.
Cavalry 10%+
Infantry 50%+ (not inculding skirmishers)
Divisions 4 units+
Skirmishers upto 50% of Infantry

Normans.
Cavalry 25%+
Knights 50% of Cavalry
Infantry 25%+
Divisions 4 units+
Skirmishers per Division up to 25% of Infantry

Plantagenet.
Cavalry 25%+
Knights 50%+ of Cavalry
Infantry 25%+
Feudal/Mercenary non-missile infantry 25%+ of Infantry
Bows 50%+ of missile armed infantry if present
Divisions 4+ Units
Skirmishers per division up to 25% of infantry

Any Ideas/Advice?
Can post full Troops lists if its helpful.

Dale has Normans and Welsh so the Normans would have historic opponents. They are also close enough to Bretons and Early Crusaders to push their use.

The Arthurians I suppose Graham has Byzantines which if you squinted wouldn't look bad

Plantagenet I have some generic medeival types and jobbers has Hundred Years War English

HC is a great game and non historic forces are able to fight each other but it does look a little odd

Not sure how a mainly cav force will do

Another good thing is if you get a force and concentrate on setting up a 200 point Lart de la guerra force which is much smaller than a full on HC force you can get a painted force on table pretty essily

Lart is a great game

Whatever you choose base em for DBA as that is what rest of us have done

Probably go for the DBA basing then (though I'm not familiar with it) L'art de la guerra was a rule system I was looking for a book for and forgot about it.
Basically seems like I need Medieval knights, footmen and bowmen all round

Think Colin can still get the Essex army packs

They should give you a good Lart force that is also a medium sized HC force

The feudal English or Early 100 years war should give you that look you are after

Yeah I think it was one of their Early Feudal English packs I was eyeing up originally lots of little knights.
