Rollcall 2016 - Flames of War

Heard of an upcoming tournament or event that may be of interest to members of the club? Looking for a potential team?

Agree the T-26 is an interesting beastie, the tank is rubbish, terrible armour, slow, typically conscript, but you get a lot of them to counter it - but they carry one of the best anti tank guns in EW, decent rate of fire but not spectacular, but with so many who cares, then AT:7 which not much can stand up to in quantity.

Think in many ways the T-26 horde is one of the benchmark lists, any axis list has to have an answer to it, the other being Strelk - which takes different tools but you also have to handle as there are usually two or three in an event.

Then on top of that you need a way to handle Veterans with artillery.. Not an easy choice for the Germans at all, you really need one list for the eastern front and one for the rest ideally. Everyone else knows they are essentially facing veterans of one sort or another which is a big help.

Final sign off to say well done pal, reports like those make me want to get more FOW games in.
My Russians may even get the shiny new boxes they requested.

Keep meaning to make up a set of cards on like a flip chart for the turn number and phase. On Sunday tried to get a picture at the end of set up and each turn to try and keep track of things... You know, something that can be dropped on the table corner and still be readable in the pictures without getting in the way.

Pain trying to take too many without slowing the game down.

Need more practice at writing, used to be my job but have not had a hand in for a few years, trying to get back into it.

Could play FoW all week, tournament scoring is different, found with Strelk its not too hard to win but a kicker avoiding the 4:3 win that puts you mid table, clawing a 6:1 is a lot harder.

This event and a few others use a version of it, take the winners FoW score and multiply by three, so 3-18, there are then two bonus points depending on the scenario type - typically getting your opponent down to 33% and a further bonus for actually breaking them or for contesting objectives, idea being to avoid gimmick lists that win quickly as they won't get the bonus points. Nice mechanic without tweaking the scenarios.

Only real drag is how wide the EW and LW periods are, only a few books towards the ends of the periods tend to do well except in the hands of seriously good players who can run anything (e.g. the guy with the T-26 horde, who ended up 4th as there were three even more evil forces out there).

Could set up a mini event up there, use the WW1 versions of the missions for the 4' square tables and drop the points slightly.
