Flames of War - Arnhem 12th October

Postby leopard » Tue Sep 09, 2014 6:23 pm

Ok Arnhem game

Few things to decide:
- When?
- Who?
- How?

Thinking the following for the scenario, the naff map below outlining a single large game as the last one works - keeps it simple

Not very good map

Red bits are the three German deployment zones, we have a defence force (Grabner?) adjacent to the river, one of the panzer forces arriving from the edge near the window and some German airborne in the third zone defending the road.

Yellow bits are British, two airborne forces start within the corner delimited by the river, these forces are allowed to move within the town, may cross the river but may not move more than 12" from the river onto the German side (they are tasked with defending the town, not breaking out of it). One British reinforcement company, based on 30. Corps arrives as a relief force.

Thus six slots:
:german: Arnhem town defences, Grabner's list?
:german: SS Panzer strike force
:german: German Airborne with difficult to spell name blocking the approaches
:british: Frost's Perimeter force
:british: British air landing force other than Frost's. Force may not have anything that cannot parachute in or land via glider
:british: 30. Corps ground force

Suggesting the game is set to about 6k5 each side, the SS and 30. corps lists being 2k5, the others up to 2k but able to flip points between all three to taste.

If we get eight players add a second panzer strike force and a second 30. Corps or a US Airborne list on the table near the window.

Open to suggestions as to when.

I can run a 30. Corps list or one of the British lists, may be able to do an SS panzer force but not sure. Guessing Colin has German airborne or panzers.

Update
Who has what?

:british: Madness, 30. Corps
:british: Leopard, 30. Corps or 1st Airborne (Frost's Perimeter Force)

:german: Lee, Grabner
:german: James, 280.Sturmgeschutzbrigade
:german: who is boycie when hes at home? SS-Kampfgruppe Arnheim or Spindler
:german: Colin, German Airborne

Yeah just thinking doing a bit of advance planning so we have roughly the forces we want - or redraft the mission to suit what we have, can get it so we hit the ground running which will give perhaps an extra hour.

Keep it simple enough to play on a single sunday so as not to hit the kids club on the saturday, avoids also the issues of people able to do one day or the other and avoiding the issues of trying to link multiple games. Just chuck a scenario and let the chaos begin

Just been looking at the market garden books and going on what Dale said, if we just focus on the Arnhem battle to start with and add other forces depending on how many people want to join.

Thinking of adding the Oosrterbeek perimeter first then hells highway if we have more players.

Could do with knowing what people can/want to do in advances what do you lot think?

includes Oosterbeek as well, two airborne deployment zones, note german ground forces deploy in yellow areas.

I'm thinking of running the 280.Sturmgeschutzbrigade and boycie is thinging of eather SS-Kampfgruppe Arnheim or Spindler.

So that's eather a German force for Arnheim and Oosterbeek or 2 for Oosterbeek.

Im sure someone has a Graebner force and Colin has his paras to slow down 30 Corps.
